Hialeah, FL / March 28, 2016 – The 2016 Florida Derby, on Saturday April 2, tops the weekend roster of “watch and wager” offerings at Hialeah Park’s Champions Simulcast Center & Sports Bar.

The major Kentucky Derby prep race, contested at nearby Gulfstream Park, will feature two undefeated three-year-olds in Fountain of Youth winner Mohaymen and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile hero Nyquist.

Mohaymen, the gray/roan son of top sire Tapit, won his three starts as a two-year-old at Aqueduct in New York before opening his Triple Crown campaign with graded stakes victories in the Holy Bull and the Fountain of Youth, both at Gulfstream Park.

Nyquist, a bay colt by Uncle Mo, won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Keeneland last October in the final start of his two-year-old season.

The California-based horse has raced only once in 2016, posting a stylish win in the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes at Santa Anita to run his career record to a perfect 6-for-6.

Champions, located on the second floor of the Hialeah Park clubhouse, is “the newest jewel” in the crown of this iconic South Florida landmark.

The simulcast center and sports bar includes 180 television screens, 54 betting carrels (each with a 19-inch video monitor), 42 wagering windows, and space for 200 horseplayers.

Parking and admission are always free at Hialeah Park. Doors will open at 11:00 AM, with the first simulcast race of the day scheduled at 12:00 PM.

Hialeah Park also provides the most popular gaming opportunities in its “state of the art” Casino, world-class poker in the recently renovated Kings Court VIP Poker Room, and entertainment with DJ El Russo and Larry Lopez in the Flamingo Lounge every Friday and Saturday night from 10 PM – 2 AM.

Hialeah Park Racing & Casino, with entrances at 100 East 32nd Street and 2200 East 4th Avenue, is easily accessible from all major Miami highways. The landmark venue is conveniently located just minutes by car from Miami International Airport, South Beach, Downtown Miami, Coral Gables, and Doral.
