Hialeah, FL / December 7, 2013 – Trainer Brandon Muniz, the top conditioner here in 2012-13, saddled five winners on the Saturday program at Hialeah Park, all ridden by jockey Jesse Levario. Their winners included Jz Zoomin Cuervo (Jess Zoomin-Eyesa Lil Cuervo), who won the first of seven trial heats on the card in a time of 21.357 for 440 yards.

That clocking stood up for the rest of the afternoon, and made Jz Zoomin Cuervo the fastest qualifier for the $409,250 Hialeah Futurity on December 29, a race that will be the richest Quarter Horse race ever contested at the iconic South Florida racing palace.

Jz Zoomin Cuervo, a bay gelding bred in Oklahoma by owner Wootan Racing, moved into immediate contention for Levario when the gates opened in his heat. He crossed the finish line ¾ of a length in front of runner-up Jz Fast Boy (21.489), who was off a bit slowly under jockey Agustin Silva, then altered course as the winner bore out. The judges posted the inquiry sign but, after examining the video, they let the original order of finish stand.

The top two finishers in that race and the 3-4 horses, Oldsmobile Hill (21.496) and Pappasinthehouse (21.693) all qualified for the December 29 finale, as did the top 3 finishers in the final trial heat, winner Pyc First Prize Fany (21.429), runner-up Tmf Cash Cartel (21.500), and third-place finisher Miss Southern Dd (21.662).

The complete list of qualifiers for the 2013 Hialeah Futurity is: Jz Zoomin Cuervo (21.357), Pyc First Prize Fany (21.429), Jz Fast Boy (21.489), Oldsmobile Hill (21.496), Tmf Cash Cartel (21.500), Quick Dynasty (21.608), Eagles Magic (21.661), Miss Southern Dd (21.662), Big Time Jp (21.684), and Pappasinthehouse (21.693).

The winning for trainer Muniz and jockey Levario started with a victory in the lidlifter, the only non-trial race of the day, when First To The Top exploded late to break her maiden in a 16-1 surprise. They grabbed the 2nd and the 4th races with Jz Zoomin Cuervo and Big Time Jp, tallied in the 5th with Quick Dynasty, and capped their big day when non-qualifier Full Blown Dynasty took the 6th race on the card.

In Saturday’s 5th race, the fourth of the futurity trial heats, jockeys Gerardo Garrido and Edgar Martinez were injured when both of their horses fell midway through the race. Garrido’s mount, Ja Gols Dynamo, appeared to have stumbled on his own while running in the clear. He unseated Garrido, then fell into the path of Isa Precious Patroit, ridden by Martinez. Both jockeys were transported to a local hospital and, according to sources at Hialeah Park, were in stable condition and being treated for various injuries. Both horses got right back on their feet after the fall and were returned to their barns.
