Hialeah Park Sets 2014-15 Racing Calendar & Stakes Schedule
Sixth Season Of Quarter Horse Racing At Iconic South Florida Venue Opens December 26, 2014; Attractive Stakes Schedule Includes 28 Guaranteed Or Added-Money Events
Hialeah, FL / June 26, 2014 – Historic Hialeah Park, known around the globe as “the world’s most beautiful race course,” will open its 6th season of world-class Quarter Horse racing on Friday December 26, 2014.
The 2014-15 racing schedule, which runs through Monday March 2, 2015, features 40 days of racing and 28 guaranteed or added-money stakes offerings.
The landmark South Florida racing palace will host live racing on a Friday to Monday schedule throughout the season, with post time set for 12:35 PM ET every racing day. As always, Hialeah Park will offer free admission and free parking.
Hialeah Park’s stakes schedule for the 2014-15 season kicks off with the $25,000-added Bienvenido De Nuevo Stakes at 330 yards on opening day December 26, 2014 and concludes with a stakes-rich afternoon on Sunday March 1, 2015 highlighted by the $100,000-added South Florida Quarter Horse Derby and the $100,000-guaranteed Sam Abbey Memorial Invitational Championship, both at the classic American Quarter Horse distance of 440 yards.
The 2014-15 stakes program will include a pair of series, the Hialeah Park Distance Series and the Hialeah Park Sprint Series. Both sets of races feature participation bonuses, totaling $20,000 for the Distance Series and $15,000 for the Sprint Series. Runners finishing 1st through 5th in series races will earn points based on final placings. The owner of the highest points earner in the Distance Series will win $12,000 and the owner of the highest points earner in the Sprint Series will win $9,000.
The Orange Blossom Stakes at 550 yards on December 28, 2014 will be the first race in the Distance Series. That sequence of races continues with the Moonstone Stakes at 660 yards on January 18, 2015 and the Key West Stakes at 1000 yards on February 8, then concludes with the Sailfish Stakes at 1000 yards on March 1. The Sprint Series starts with the Speedball Stakes at 110 yards on January 11, continues with the Tallahassee Stakes at 220 yards on January 25 and the Roble Rojo Stakes at 220 yards on February 21, then finishes with the Beautiful Prairie Stakes at 250 yards on March 1.
