BEAUTIFUL PRAIRIE DRAWS EIGHT RUNNERS, CAST INCLUDES RECORD-SETTING WINNER MADRESITA
Hialeah, FL / February 6, 2014 – Sunday’s 5th running of The Beautiful Prairie Stakes, a $25,000-added affair at the specialized distance of 250 yards, drew a competitive field of eight three-year-olds and up when entries were taken this past Monday at in the Hialeah Park racing office.
The entrants include Rodney Verret’s four-year-old sorrel filly Madresita, who set the current Hialeah Park track record for 250 yards in her allowance-level victory January 6. The Oklahoma-bred daughter of Pappasito-Mongoose Jet Eye stopped the timer in 12.893 seconds (with a 5 MPH tailwind) in her first outing over the local strip and her first start since finishing second in a $25,000 optional claiming race at Evangeline Downs in Louisiana in early November 2013.
Madresita was one of four runners in that January 6 race to break the short-lived track standard of 13.060 seconds for 250 yards established by Rdustys Fury in her Mockingbird Stakes win last December 1.
On Sunday, she will make her second start for trainer John Stinebaugh under the handling of jockey Luis Guerrero, who was in the saddle for Madresita’s record-breaking effort.
Her stiffest competition figures to come from 2013 Beautiful Prairie winner Bps Jumpin Frisco, a winner of 8 races and $415,576 in 24 starts, and Valiant Lil Lady, winner of the 2013 Bienvenido de Nuevo at 330 yards on December 8 and the top earner in Sunday’s field at $516,794.
Bps Frisco, a five-year-old gelding owned by Elite Oilfield Services, will be seeking his third consecutive Hialeah Park victory in his 4th start for trainer Alfredo Gomez. Jockey Yordanis Amaro will handle the reins with Jesse Levario –who rode the gelding in his January 10 victory– takes the call on Straightfromtheheart for conditioner Brandon Muniz and Omar Reyes –who piloted Bps Frisco to victory in the Signature Stakes December 28– sitting out The Beautiful Prairie.
Valiant Lil Lady finished 3rd in the Signature Stakes behind Bps Frisco and Fierce Runaway. Trainer Judd Kearl retains the services of regular rider Rodrigo Vallejo for The Beautiful Prairie. The four-year-old Valiant Hero-Rustys Lil Lady offspring earned the lion’s share of her earnings by pocketing $432,533 for her Texas Classic Futurity score at Lone Star Park (TX) in November 2012.
The field for the 2014 edition of The Beautiful Prairie, from inside to outside, will be: A Plain Brown Rapper, Tampico, Bps Jumpin Frisco, Madresita, Wagons West, Mi Angela, Straightfromtheheart, and Valiant Lil Lady.
