Hialeah, FL / February 2, 2014 – The gray gelding Dashin Beduino –overlooked in the wagering at 7-1 even after a last-out local allowance tally– broke alertly, found clear sailing early, and ran strongly to the finish line in posting an upset victory in Sunday’s $42,125 Sawgrass Stakes at Hialeah Park.

The four-year-old Louisiana-bred son of Gros Oreille (Chicks Beduino)-Swiftone (Dashin Bye) was making his third South Florida start and third start off the claim for the World Wide Enterprises, LLC. The ownership group tagged Dashin Beduino for $10,000 on November 15, 2013 at Evangeline Downs in Louisiana from a race in which the gelding finished last of five as an odds-on favorite.

Saddled by trainer Yoel Luis and ridden to victory in the Sawgrass Stakes by jockey Osdany Leal, Dashin Beduino covered the American Quarter Horse classic distance of 440 yards in 21.442 seconds.

At the finish line, Dashin Beduino was a half-length better than the fast-closing Joltin Jess, who came into the Sawgrass Stakes after extended-distance victories in the Crystal River Stakes (550Y) and the Moonstone Stakes (660Y). Hialeah Derby champion and 3-2 wagering favorite Dash Master Jess finished another neck back in third, with 2012 Hialeah Laddie Futurity hero Joker On Jack checking in fourth, a little over a length behind the winner.

Dashin Beduino recorded his 4th victory in his 15th lifetime start. He earned the winner’s share of $25,275 to increase his lifetime winnings to $89,185.

The official running order in the 2014 Sawgrass Stakes, reduced to a field of 8 after Panther Speed scratched, was as follows: Dashin Beduino, Joltin Jess, Dash Master Jess, Joker On Jack, Sure Shot B, I See Visions, Mo Zoomo, and Feature My News.

Live Quarter Horse racing resumes at Hialeah Park on Friday February 7, the first day of a three-day racing weekend. After that, Hialeah Park will hold a four-day racing week February 14-17 (including Monday February 17) before finishing the 2013-14 season with live racing cards on Saturday February 22 and Sunday February 23.
