LUCKY LOSER CONTEST GENERATES BIG BUZZ AT HIALEAH, $5,000 DRAWING ON TAP EVERY SUNDAY OF MEET
Hialeah, FL / December 3, 2013 – The initial $5,000 “Lucky Loser” drawing of the 2013-14 live racing season at Hialeah Park produced a “game show-like atmosphere” trackside on Sunday December 1.
As the winning “Lucky Loser” ticket was drawn and the winner announced, the on-track fans grew eerily quiet as they listened attentively to learn the name of the $5,000 winner, Abel Concepcion.
“I’ve never seen a crowd here get so quiet,” said track announcer Peter Aiello, who viewed the proceedings from his booth up on press row. “Then, when they announced the winner, it was like an episode of The Price Is Right! The winner went completely nuts and everyone else cheered for him! It was really cool!”
Those sentiments were echoed by track handicapper Michelle McSweeney, who was in the winner’s circle for the drawing. “Abel seemed to be a real crowd favorite,” she said. “The whole grandstand went wild when they realized he was the winner!”
The $5,000 Lucky Loser drawing will be held weekly, every Sunday after the 6th race, for the remainder of the 2013-14 Quarter Horse season at Hialeah Park through February 23, 2014.
Contestants must be at least 18 years old to participate. Entrants must print their name and phone number legibly on the back of a losing ticket and deposit the ticket in the drawing bin at the track during the week up to post time for Sunday’s 6th race. Losing tickets must be for a minimum wager of $2 on a live race at Hialeah Park.
Winner must be present and show proof of identity. Hialeah Park employees and family members are ineligible.
