Hialeah, FL / February 21, 2014 – Hialeah Park, the iconic South Florida racing palace known the globe over as “the world’s most beautiful race course,” closes out its 2013-14 live Quarter Horse racing season with a stakes-rich ten-race program on Sunday February 23, 2014.

The $100,000-added South Florida Quarter Horse Derby and the $100,000-guaranteed Sam Abbey Memorial Invitational, both at 440 yards, are the marquee attractions on the final day of the season.

Ten runners will contest the South Florida Quarter Horse Derby, including four horses who ran in the $406,955 Hialeah Futurity on December 29, the richest Quarter Horse race ever contested here: winner Eagles Magic, third-place finisher Big Time Jp, fifth-place finisher Pyc First Prize Fany, and eighth-place finisher Quick Dynasty.

Quick Dynasty, the gelded son of Fdd Dynasty-Royal Quick Glass, has rebounded from his disappointing run in the futurity to record back-to-back victories for trainer leading trainer Brandon Muniz, including a “fastest qualifier” victory for Sunday’s derby with a time of 21.591 seconds for 440 yards in the February 1 trials.

Five horses qualified for the South Florida Quarter Horse Derby out of the 6th race February 1, the last of three trial heats: Pyc First Prize Fany (21.682), Eagles Magic (21.997), Pruittized (22.009), Corona Sportiness (22.165), and Furyofthesea (22.259).

The field, in post position order, for the 2014 South Florida Quarter Horse Derby: Eye Get The Blues, Corona Sportiness, Eagles Magic, Big Time Jp, Beattie Feathers, Furyofthesea, Max Cartel, Pruittized, Quick Dynasty, and Pyc First Prize Fany.

The Sam Abbey Memorial Invitational, named in honor of Hialeah Park’s late Director of Racing, drew an overflow field of 11 runners including six stakes winners during the 2013-14 meet: Beautiful Prairie winner Mi Angela, City of Hialeah champ Sure Shot B, Moonstone and Crystal River hero Joltin Jess, Hialeah Sophomore Invitational heroine Texelkas Chic, Hialeah Derby champion Dash Master Jess, and Sawgrass Stakes winner Dashin Beduino.

The closing day stakes festivities will also include the $50,000-added Sailfish Stakes, the final leg of the new Hialeah Marathon Series, at the unique Hialeah Park distance of 1,000 yards and the $20,000-added Roble Rojo Bonus Challenge for horses enrolled in the Bank of America Racing Challenge.
