SOUTH FLORIDA QUARTER HORSE DERBY, SAM ABBEY MEMORIAL INVITATIONAL TOP SUNDAY CARD
Hialeah, FL / February 21, 2014 – Hialeah Park, the iconic South Florida racing palace known the globe over as “the world’s most beautiful race course,” closes out its 2013-14 live Quarter Horse racing season with a stakes-rich ten-race program on Sunday February 23, 2014.
The $100,000-added South Florida Quarter Horse Derby and the $100,000-guaranteed Sam Abbey Memorial Invitational, both at 440 yards, are the marquee attractions on the final day of the season.
Ten runners will contest the South Florida Quarter Horse Derby, including four horses who ran in the $406,955 Hialeah Futurity on December 29, the richest Quarter Horse race ever contested here: winner Eagles Magic, third-place finisher Big Time Jp, fifth-place finisher Pyc First Prize Fany, and eighth-place finisher Quick Dynasty.
Quick Dynasty, the gelded son of Fdd Dynasty-Royal Quick Glass, has rebounded from his disappointing run in the futurity to record back-to-back victories for trainer leading trainer Brandon Muniz, including a “fastest qualifier” victory for Sunday’s derby with a time of 21.591 seconds for 440 yards in the February 1 trials.
Five horses qualified for the South Florida Quarter Horse Derby out of the 6th race February 1, the last of three trial heats: Pyc First Prize Fany (21.682), Eagles Magic (21.997), Pruittized (22.009), Corona Sportiness (22.165), and Furyofthesea (22.259).
