SUNDAY’S BISCAYNE STAKES AT 250 YARDS DRAWS COMPETITIVE FULL FIELD OF THREE-YEAR-OLDS

Hialeah, FL / January 15, 2014 – Sunday’s featured $25,000-added Biscayne Stakes, a race for three-year-olds at 250 yards, drew a competitive field of 10 runners at the entry box.

A pair of entrants, Pm Runaway Dash and Supertanker, are last-out winners at Hialeah Park, but morning line favoritism landed on the well-connected filly Ja Jess Elegance, who just missed when second to then-track record setter Rdustys Fury in the Mockingbird Stakes –also at 250 yards– here on December 1, 2013.

The daughter of Mr Jess Perry (Streakin La Jolla) – Golly Zee (Gol) was bred in Texas by her owners Joe B. Allen and Dallas Blakley. She is under the care of trainer Judd Kearl, who stays with his first-call rider Rodrigo Vallejo.

Vallejo was aboard Ja Jess Elegance in her Mockingbird Stakes near-miss and he also handled the reins when the filly won an allowance-level affair for trainer Steve Kearl in late October 2013 at Lone Star Park in Texas.

The Lone Star Park victory was a turning point for Ja Jess Elegance, who came into that start off lackluster 2013 performances at Prairie Meadows and Remington Park.

The last-out winner Supertanker, a colt who easily won a tough Hialeah Park allowance test December 15, will run in search of his third consecutive victory. He too boasts solid connections, racing for owner Wade Helton and trainer Alfredo Gomez. Jockey Omar Reyes, who rode the son of Mr Jess Perry (Streakin La Jolla)-Coronita Cartel (Corona Cartel) in his Florida victory and in his maiden-breaker in November at Will Rogers Downs, has the return assignment.

And last-out winner Pm Runaway Dash, owned by the M&G Farms of Mauricio Montano, has rebounded from a troubled Mockingbird Stakes outing to finish second, beaten a nose, at 250 yards on December 20 and first by half a length at 220 yards on January 6. Trainer Jesus Garrido gives the return assignment to jockey James Flores.

The complete field for the 2014 Biscayne Stakes, carded as the 8th race on a 9-race program, from inside to outside: Pm Runaway Dash, Ja Jess Elegance, Stellar Scenestealer, Ja Gols Playboy, Ja Gols Firebrand, First Prize Linda, Blue Gene Harley, Supertanker, Spittin Jessie, and Redbeam.

Hialeah Park will offer a special live racing program on Martin Luther King Day, Monday January 20. First post for the eight-race card is 12:30 PM ET.
