SURE SHOT B PADS BANKROLL WITH CITY OF HIALEAH TALLY UNDER CONFIDENT VALLEJO HANDLING

Hialeah, FL / January 12, 2014 – The five-year-old gelding Sure Shot B, who entered the featured $27,125 City of Hialeah Stakes as the leading money earner in the field, upped his lifetime earnings to $572,284 with his half-length victory over Coppers Fit at Hialeah Park on Sunday.

Sure Shot B covered 400 yards in the City of Hialeah in a sharp 19.378 seconds, winning for the second consecutive time at Hialeah Park and scoring his 8th victory in his 16th lifetime start. He earned the winner’s share of $16,275 in his first outing of 2014.

The gelded son of Stoli (First Down Dash)-She A Miracle (Dean Miracle) scored under the confident handling of veteran jockey Rodrigo Vallejo, who earned his second win of the day and his 21st victory of the 2013-14 season.

In the winner’s circle after the race, Vallejo commented, “No race is easy to win, but my horse broke well, got right into contention, and finished well. It wasn’t too difficult for him to win.”

Sure Shot B –bred in Texas by Bielau Farms– ran for owners Charles Forbes, Jr. and Tommy Hayes out of the barn of trainer Judd Kearl, who logged his 7th victory of the Hialeah Park campaign.

The majority of Sure Shot B’s bankroll –$501,154– came by way of his September 2011 victory in the $1,158,941 Texas Classic Futurity at Lone Star Park, which –at the time—was the richest horse race ever run in Texas.

After the top two finishers, Sure Shot B and Coppers Fit, the remaining order of finish in the 2014 City of Hialeah Stakes was: 9-5 favorite Joker On Jack, Feature My News, Lighting Regard, Wild Ryde, and Texelkas Chic. The field was reduced to seven with the scratches of Dreamnwideopen, Okey Dokey Diamond, and Authority Choice.

Hialeah Park now heads full-speed into the second half of the 2013-14 Quarter Horse season with a four-day racing week next up. The track will offer live racing Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of the coming week.
