And Survivors Concert To Benefit Cancer Research

Hialeah, FL (April 1, 2019) – On April 5th, Miami Lakes Cars for a Cure will “kick off” the 5th annual Miami Lakes Cars for a Cure Car Show at the historic Hialeah Park Racing & Casino by presenting “The Survivor’s Concert,” followed on Sunday, April 7th, with their annual car show on Main Street in Miami Lakes. Both events benefit cancer research at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami.

The weekend events begin at Hialeah Park Racing & Casino as it hosts “The Survivor’s Concert,” featuring local freestyle performers Coro, Erotic Exotic, Angel A-Love (formerly of TKA), Miami Lakes’ own Mantrap, and internationally renowned recording group Lime. General admission and VIP tickets are available and on sale now at survivorsconcert.eventbrite.com, or by contacting Miami Lakes Cars for a Cure at www.mlcarsforacure.com or call us at 786-519-3915.

Sunday, April 7th, finds Miami Lakes Cars for a Cure presenting its 5th Annual Car Show on Main Street in Miami Lakes. This free, family-friendly event, sponsored by Hialeah Park Racing and Casino, has over 250 classic and antique cars on display, as well as live music, featuring local talents Ricky Valido and Mantrap. Food and beverage vendors will offer a wide variety to choose from, and a beer garden with over 15 different local breweries is available, as well. An expected 5,000 people will be in attendance.

The Alonso family of Miami Lakes created this event after its patriarch, Roberto Alonso, Sr., passed away from a rare form of cancer. Roberto was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and public servant, having served the Town of Miami Lakes as a founding Council Member and its first Vice Mayor.

When he was diagnosed with this rare form of cancer in May of 2013, he was given very little hope and only days to live. After receiving such a stark prognosis, most would surrender and prepare for the inevitable, but not Roberto, Sr.

Armed with an unwavering faith in the Almighty, the steadfast support and unparalleled love of his family, and the cutting-edge treatment he received at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and its affiliates, he was able to enjoy the love of his family and friends for an additional 16 months. Roberto Alonso, Sr. finally succumbed to his ailment in 2014.

He had a passion for classic and antique cars, and this passion, along with his battle with cancer, was the genesis of this event, unique to the communities that he so dearly loved. The Alonso family memorializes Roberto, Sr., and honors cancer survivors that live every day as a testimony to their strength and courage against the scourge that is cancer, with this philanthropic endeavor.

These events are operated and produced solely by volunteers. Many of the venues and logistical infrastructure is donated, and 100% of any remaining proceeds are directly donated to the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center for research to combat and eventually eradicate cancer – arguably, the plague of modern Humanity.

To date, Miami Lakes Cars for a Cure has raised approximately $100,000 for cancer research. This year’s goal is $50,000.
