DAYTONA B TOPS HIALEAH MATURITY QUALIFIERS BY .002 OF A SECOND, FAVORED EMPEROR VALERIAN SCORES IN ORANGE BLOSSOM
Hialeah, FL / December 28, 2014 — Gregorio Garcia Garza’s Daytona B, a strong winner of the Adequan Derby Challenge Championship in his last start October 18 at Prairie Meadows, returned to action Sunday and stamped himself at the fastest qualifier for the January 18 Hialeah Maturity.
The sorrel gelding, trained by Rolando Almanza and ridden to victory by Yordanis Amaro, won the second of four trials contested on the third day of the 2014-15 season at this iconic racing emporium, clocking a time of 21.517 seconds for the classic American Quarter Horse distance of 440 yards, a mere .002 of a second better than first heat winner El Macho Prieto Boy’s time of 21.519.
The top 10 qualifiers for the Maturity are: Daytona B (21.517), El Macho Prieto Boy (21.519), Dashin For A Prize (21.635), Royal Fast Jess (21.711), Quick Dynasty (21.738), Max Cartel (21.748), Gals Gotta Sizzle (21.765), Jessies First Down (21.818), Pruittized (21.837), and Cautionsly (21.845).
In Sunday’s featured $25,000 Orange Blossom Stakes for three-year-olds and up at 550 yards, the six-year-old gelding Emperor Valerian proved best in his first try at Hialeah Park, defeating Paint Candy Flying by three-quarters of a length as the 3-2 post time favorite.
Running for Rancho Los Dos Potrillos LLC, Emperor Valerian was saddled by Anna Crowson and ridden to victory in the Orange Blossom Stakes by the veteran Alex Baldillez, Jr.
