#1 QUALIFIERS TOP FIELDS FOR RICH FUTURITY AND DERBY AS HIALEAH PARK CARDS FOUR SUNDAY STAKES
Hialeah, FL / December 24, 2013 – Iconic Hialeah Park –the world’s most beautiful race course– will offer the richest purse ever in its four-plus seasons of Quarter Horse racing as 10 promising two-year-olds contest the $409,250 Hialeah Futurity at 440 yards on Sunday December 29.
The lucrative futurity –carded as the 8th race of a nine-race program– will be the crown jewel of a four-stakes race card on the last day of racing in the calendar year at Hialeah Park. The afternoon also includes the $200,000 (est.) Hialeah Derby, the $40,000 Hialeah El Niño Invitational, and the $30,000 Hialeah Sophomore Invitational. Like the futurity, those three races will be decided at the classic American Quarter Horse distance of 440 yards.
Both the Hialeah Futurity and the Hialeah Derby drew full fields of 10 runners, including fastest qualifiers Jz Zoomin Cuervo (21.357) in the Hialeah Futurity and Dash Master Jess (21.355) in the Hialeah Derby.
Trainer Brandon Muniz –the top conditioner at Hialeah Park last season– will saddle Jz Zoomin Cuervo, 6th fastest qualifier Quick Dynasty, and 9th fastest qualifier Big Time Jp in the Hialeah Futurity His three runners each won their respective trial heats and Muniz expects all of them to run well again with the big money on the line.
“Jz Zoomin Cuervo (Jess Zoomin-Eysa Lil Cuervo) is doing awesome,” Muniz said. “He’s getting back into shape and he really needed that last race after having some time off and traveling from Oklahoma to Florida.”
“Quick Dynasty (Fdd Dynasty-Royal Quick Glass) has been training well for me all year. He ran a little greenly in that (August 16) race at Ruidoso Downs, but he’s maturing and coming around.”
“Big Time Jp (Big Time Favorite-Jess My Heart), out of all three, really needed his last race the most. He got a little tired around 400 yards, but he should be much more fit with that one under his belt,” added Muniz.
The field for the $409,250 Hialeah Futurity, in post position order, will be: Quick Dynasty, Pyc First Prize Fany, Pappasinthehouse, Miss Southern Dd, Jz Fast Boy, Tmf Cash Cartel, Oldsmobile Hill, Jz Zoomin Cuervo, Eagles Magic, and Big Time Jp.
Trainer Rolando Almanza will tighten the girth on Dash Master Jess (Mr Jess Perry-Dash Master Miss) in the Hialeah Derby. His runner was the talk of the trials after uncorking a powerful late run to win by over two lengths and post a 108 SI on December 8.
“He’s doing really well, he came back from his trial win pretty good,” reported Almanza. “If he runs like he did that day, he’ll be tough again.”
“If he breaks the way he’s supposed to, and he gets going like he can, he’s got a good chance to win,” he added. “But, there will be nine others in there who qualified too. Hopefully, the best horse will win and it will be mine!”
The field for the $200,000 (est.) Hialeah Futurity, inside to outside, is: Dreamnwideopen, Panther Speed, Stormy Cartel, Hey List, Habits Secret, Dash Master Jess, Scouts Diva, Joker On Jack, I See Visions, and Rawhide Creek.
